HHS Officials Evaluate UK COVID Mutation

Officials say current vaccines should be effective, but will need further study.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has expressed concerns over the virulent strain of the coronavirus emanating from the U.K., which has led U.S. officials to require negative test results for anyone arriving from Britain.

He said that while British officials have expressed confidence that existing vaccines will be equally effective against the mutant strain, the U.S. will do its own studies

In addition, Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary Admiral Brett Giroir said that he believed current vaccines should be effective against the mutant strain. “We have not evidence that suggests, nor do we believe, that… the vaccine would not be effective. In other words, we do believe the vaccine will be effective against this variant,” Admiral Giroir said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the National Institutes of Health as they conduct studies regarding new virus strains.
  • For the Department of Health and Human Services as they seek to safeguard the American public.
  • For wisdom for U.S. officials as they place travel restrictions and guidelines.
