Senator Durbin Calls Recent SolarWinds Hack an “Act of War”

Though not confirmed, many in the intelligence community suspect Russia is responsible.

The hacking of the federal government on Monday has now been assessed as the largest cyberattack in American history. Multiple federal agencies and private companies were compromised in the attack. The identity of the hacker is still unknown, though Russia is being held as the most likely suspect. Due to the relative newness of internet-based warfare, Congress is struggling with how to respond.

“No response is not appropriate, and that’s been our national policy by and large for the past 10 or 15 years,” said Senator Angus King, the co-chair of the Cyberspace Solarium Commission. Senator Dick Durbin added, “This is virtually a declaration of war by Russia on the United States and we should take that seriously.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and administration official as they coordinate a response.
  • That the National Nuclear Security Administration would recover from its compromised state.
  • That Congress would move forward with clarity in their united effort to defend against cyber-attacks.
