Eliminate Doubt

Drive away “stinkin’ thinkin’.

James 1:6 – Let him ask in faith, without doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

In The Psychology of Doubt, the authors say, “Doubt is not a passive state one finds themselves in, but rather a mental action that they are intentionally or unintentionally engaged it.” And, they say, “it may be totally unrelated to one’s level of knowledge or available information.” Rather, it is tied to internal thought processes. Sometimes it is difficult to keep negative thoughts from creeping into your mind—especially when the world and the nation are seeming to be in chaos.

Yet, even in the midst of whatever chaos the world throws at you–pandemic related, the economic collapses, election uncertainties, and other things that assail you, make no mistake, God is at work. His plans will not be thwarted (Job 42:2), and through Him, those who love Him are equipped to overcome the chaos (Philippians 4:13).

If doubt comes as a result of your internal dialog, change it in accordance with Philippians 4:8, to think about “whatever is true, whatever is honorable,  whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable” and the things of excellence and praise. Above all, set your focus on the Lord and His peace will help you to eliminate the doubts you have.

Pray With Us

Gracious Father, You are so good. You understand me when I don’t understand myself. And because You know that I am sometimes frail, Your Word always brings me to the point I need to be—like a mirror that I can hold up to see what it is I’m reflecting. I ask you to remove doubt from my mind during these turbulent and unreasonable times. Set my thinking on the things You have for me. I bless Your name and thank You, Amen.

  • Acknowledge our confidence in God and ask the Holy Spirit to encourage you and strengthen your spirit.
  • Pray that God would reveal any areas of doubt that you have and fill you with His perfect assurance instead.
  • Pray that God would give you peace in the plans He has for you.
  • Rejoice in the Lord’s goodness.
  • Thank Him that You can know He is at work in America and across the world to fulfill His purposes.
