Inheritance of the Blameless

The blameless will have a goodly inheritance. – Proverbs 28:10

The book of Proverbs is one of opposites and counter-balances. It shows the gains of wisdom versus the ruinous effects of folly. The proverbs contrast the evil person with the godly one, one who is hard-working as opposed to the slothful, the peacemaker versus agitator. And the result: “The blameless will have a goodly inheritance” (Proverbs 28:10).

Who is the “blameless” person? Lawrence O. Richards explains in the Expository Dictionary of Bible Words: “It is God’s action in Christ that blankets us with his own holiness and lets us stand blameless before God.” In this sense, blamelessness is positional. As you strive to live a holy and godly life, ethically and morally pure, blamelessness becomes a practical aspect of living.

The blessing of all this is that “goodly inheritance” in store for you. Once you are born again through faith in Jesus, you are a child of God and thus His heir to all the good things, tangible and intangible, to be found in Him. Peter encourages you to know that this inheritance is “imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4). It is everything that accompanies your salvation… it is permanent.

Oh, what joy should be in your heart! Your faith will be tested by fire, but may it remain strong and “found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ… Believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible” (1 Peter 1:7-9). Pray that the people of this nation experience a revival and receive that same sweet inheritance.

Today’s Verse: Proverbs 28:10

Whoever misleads the upright into an evil way
will fall into his own pit,
but the blameless will have a goodly inheritance.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
