Weak faith? Strong Christ!

1 Peter 5:10 – After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Thomas Watson was a 17th century Puritan pastor. Born in Yorkshire, well educated at Cambridge, his writings, including A Body of Divinity, reveal his depth of doctrine, clarity of expression, warmth of spirituality, love of application, and gift of illustration.  Portions of it are required reading in many seminaries today.  He often discussed the matter of faith.

“We must distinguish between weakness of faith and no faith. A weak faith is true. The bruised reed is but weak, but it is such as Christ will not break. Though thy faith be weak, be not discouraged. A weak faith may receive a strong Christ. … The promise is not made to strong faith, but to true.”

Galatians 2:20 says, “the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God.”   In Ephesians 2:8 read, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.”

When you are disappointed, disheartened, discouraged, depressed or despairing of all that the year 2020 has dealt you, and your faith waivers even a little, remember that it is not the strength of your faith that matters…it is the strong Christ you worship!  Hold onto the faith that you have. He is the One who will restore, confirm, strengthen, establish, and settle your heart!

Pray With Us

Heavenly Father, You are so good. You do not leave us to struggle alone with the thoughts that sometimes overwhelm us. All through Your Word, You remind us that our strength is found in You. My faith may falter and feel weak, but I am, oh, so thankful that Jesus doesn’t measure me by the strength of my faith, but by its honesty. You are my Lord, and I submit to Your will. Settle my heart and mind today by Your Word and Your love, to the honor of Your glory, Amen.
