Staying Positive

Power up!

1 Corinthians 12:9 – Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

The editor of the Harvard Heart Letter recently wrote,” When people look back on their lives, it is usually the most difficult challenges that gave them a new perspective or caused them to grow the most.”  She went on to encourage “positive psychology” as a help in reshaping negative feelings.

Dr. Ron Siegel, an assistant psychology professor at Harvard Medical School agreed and offered some tips that included practicing kindness and gratitude. Sort of sounds like some Biblical advice, doesn’t it? For followers of Jesus, staying positive is far more than practicing positive thinking—it is knowing the Source of your power to think as you ought…kindly and thankfully. When the negative thoughts crowd in, it is time to remember the promises of God to be there with you, and that going through the hard challenges with Him, will bring you strength and a positive outlook. That is especially true this week as you settle in to watch the unfolding of the choice of America’s electorate. Whether it goes your way or not, keep trusting God for His power in your life.

Pray With Us

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and Your grace. Thank You for the hard times that force me to grow in You as I learn to trust You more fully with everything.  Keep me focused on You during this turbulent time. Let the storms wash over me to purify my relationship with You, Most Holy God. Bless this nation to Your glory, in Jesus’ Name,

Amen.
