Who Moved?

It is time for the nation to return.

Deuteronomy 4:7 – For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as the Lord our God is to us, whenever we call upon him?

A question is often asked of a struggling Christian—if God seems far away from you, who moved?  Throughout time, there have been only two nations that God has showered with great blessings: Israel and America.

Many, like Patrick Henry, a Christian patriot and early colonial governor, were quick to point out the inability to separate the nation’s founding from its Judeo-Christian roots. Known for his “give me liberty or give me death” speech, Henry also said, “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”  One of the great slogans of the American Revolution was “No King but King Jesus!”

Yet that same America has drifted from God, and you see tragedies, troubles, and strife as a result. So who moved?

Today’s verse says God is near when we call upon Him. As a nation, it is time to seek the Lord while he may be found, to call upon Him while He is still near (Isaiah 55:6). It is time for national repentance and for a great revival and return to the Lord. Large efforts begin small, one person at a time. Keep your heart right with God.

Pray With Us

Heavenly Father, You are Holy. Your outstretched hand has been America’s protection for over 244 years…a small glimmer of time in terms of eternity. Yet, as a nation, we have been guilty of leaving our First Love, of turning to doing what every person sees as right in his or her own eyes, of “doing our own thing” and leaving You out of the equation. For every conduct of mine that has been outside of Your will for me, Lord, I seek Your forgiveness. Thank You for knowing what is best for me as a person and for America as a nation. May Your will be done…and I ask this aware that I might not like the consequences if you deal with us in judgment. I trust You completely and thank You for Your mighty love.

Amen.
