Blessings in Motion

Blessings are on the head of the righteous… the memory of the righteous is a blessing. – Proverbs 10:6-7

There are two definitions of the word blessing. It can mean something that’s positive in your life. Or blessing can be words that set those good things in motion. In Genesis, when God blessed Adam and Eve and said, “Be fruitful and multiply,” He ordered those blessings to materialize, though Adam and Eve did not have children at the time (Genesis 1:28). Like He spoke creation into being, He orders good things to manifest in a person’s life. That’s why it was a serious matter when Jacob tricked Esau out of his blessing and when he crossed his hands and blessed his younger grandson over the older (Genesis 27, Genesis 48).

When children came to Jesus, He laid his hands on them and blessed them (Mark 10:16). He ordered good things to come into their lives. Paul says, “Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them” (Romans 12:14). Do your words enable good things to flow into a person’s life? Can you be thought of as a blessing, as it says in today’s verse?

Think of the people who have been a blessing to you. Thank God for them and remember them in your prayers, as Paul did, “Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere, I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly” (Ephesians 1:15-16). Speak the blessing in todays recommended reading over your family, the people in your life and the nation. Ask God to set good things into motion for this nation.

Today’s Verse: Proverbs 10:6-7

Blessings are on the head of the righteous,
but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
The memory of the righteous is a blessing,
but the name of the wicked will rot.
