Saved to Serve

Present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.  – Romans 6:13

Air Force veteran Jay Lorenzen was recently scheduled to speak at an annual training for Marine Corps JAG reservists. Lorenzen, whose biography includes work with Campus Crusade for Christ, was going to give three presentations on leadership. Yet an atheist organization, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, expressed concerns about Lorenzen’s Christian beliefs influencing his remarks. Military officials cancelled his talk within an hour.

Rep. Doug Collins was appalled by the USMC’s willingness to quickly cave to the atheists’ demands to eradicate Christianity from the military. In a letter to Defense Secretary Esper, Senator Ted Cruz indicated the Defense Department has engaged in religious discrimination. He pressed the secretary on how the department planned to address its “culture of hostility towards religion.”

“The Department must do better. It must take affirmative steps to stop those in its ranks from targeting religious individuals and violating the United States Constitution,” Senator Cruz wrote.

There is a spiritual war between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan. When you embrace Jesus as your Savior, He saves you from the penalty of sin. He frees you from the power of sin. And one day, He will deliver you from the presence of sin. As a believer, you have the mighty supernatural power of the risen Christ. With the enabling of the Holy Spirit, you can live that supernatural life simply by claiming His rights through an act of His will. That means you must daily surrender yourself to be a weapon for His righteousness in the battle. And pray that other believers, including America’s military leaders, will claim their kingdom rights and stand strong for the gospel.

Today’s Verse: Romans 6:13

Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.

What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
