A Different DIY

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. – 2 Timothy 3:16

Do It Yourself – DIY – has become the norm for many people. Books or online sites offer instruction for everything from gardening to home improvement to how to make bird feeders, a custom mirror, or yogurt. You can follow directions and sometimes your efforts yield your desired end, sometimes not.

There is only one book that will always give you the best results, even if you mess up once in a while. Scripture – God’s Holy Word – is the one instruction manual that will guide you with directions that cannot fail… if only you will follow them. Scripture has been set apart by God for sacred use, to teach you to know what is true. John MacArthur wrote that the Bible is divine revelation. You must believe it, memorize it, meditate on it, study it, obey it, defend it and live it! The list seems ominous, but it is not if you only give it a try.

A great Bible teacher who encourages everyone he sees to read through the Bible every year says that if you spend eleven minutes each day reading it, “You will run out of Bible before you run out of year!” Take the time to be with the Lord. Your DIY should stand for “Don’t Ignore Yahweh!”

It will become more and more difficult to recognize those who try to deceive, but if you have God’s sword of defense and use it, you will know the truth. Pray now for the believers in government leadership. May they stand firm for truth as only proclaimed in God’s Holy Word, and may their efforts succeed as they seek to do right.

Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.

The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, 12 in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

13 But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. 14 To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.

16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.
