Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a statement on Wednesday reaffirming the willingness of the U.S. to stand with Great Britain against pressures from the Chinese Communist Party. A British bank has recently shut down account access of certain Hongkongers who are pro-democracy. Secretary Pompeo said, “Free nations must ensure that corporate interests are not suborned by the CCP to aid its political repression. We stand ready to help the British government and its companies resist CCP bullying and stand for freedom.”

The secretary of state met with Crown Prince of Bahrain, His Royal Highness Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa in Manama, Bahrain, yesterday. State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said, “The Secretary thanked the King for Bahrain’s continued friendship and strategic partnership with the United States. They addressed the need to promote regional peace and prosperity, confront the threat from Iran, and build greater unity among Gulf countries.”

Secretary Pompeo also met on Wednesday with United Arab Emirates Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Again, Spokesman Ortagus said, “The Secretary congratulated the Foreign Minister and National Security Advisor on the monumental achievement of the Abraham Accords and they discussed regional and bilateral issues of concern, including mutual support for de-escalation and a lasting ceasefire in Libya, Gulf unity, and countering Iran’s malign influence in the region.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God’s will to be accomplished through the president’s words and actions.
  • For Secretary Pomeo as he reaches out to allies and strengthens partnerships in the Middle East.
  • For wisdom for President Trump’s administration as challenging situations continue to arise with China.
