Life Later

In hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began. – Titus 1:2

Do you want to live forever? Futurologists are furiously working on it. Some believe the year 2050 will record the first generation experiencing a human/machine interfaced type of immortality. Currently the technology is in use for extreme paralysis patients. It successfully lets them operate prosthetic limbs with just their thoughts. The future hope is to expand that ability to an entire android body.

Eternal life in the Bible is something quite different. When thinking of Christ’s work on the cross many stop at salvation, but in truth it is only the front door. Fellowship with Christ ushers followers into an eternity living in God’s presence. “this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life” (1 John 5:11-12).

Sitting at a well in the noonday sun, parched and dry, Jesus spoke to a woman from Samaria describing His gift. “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a wellspring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4:13-14).

After your work on Earth is complete, you can look forward to life, eternal life in Christ, abundant and satisfying. Pray today for churches across America to be faithful in offering Jesus Christ as mankind’s hope for everlasting life. And lift up America’s leaders to find faith in that hope for themselves.

25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name bear witness about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
