Where You Stand Matters

Are you solid?

2 Timothy 2:19 – But God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his.”

Nearly 180 feet…that is the depth of the foundation for some of the world’s tallest buildings. To prevent natural forces from toppling them over, mega-tall structures need a low center of gravity, only achieved by digging deep into the ground and in a soil sturdy enough to hold the weight of the building. The world’s tallest building is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, towering at 2,716 feet. But under construction and set for completion sometime in 2020 is the Jeddah Tower, or Kingdom Tower, in Saudi Arabia. Near the corrosive salt water from the Red Sea, its foundation is shallow, but it is designed with unique pilings driven up to 650 feet deep and 300 feet across. Yet, the building, which will weigh over 890,000 tons, is expected to settle. Architects and engineers hope it will settle evenly.

Jesus is referred to as the believer’s firm foundation, a solid rock,  In 1 Corinthians 3, you are referred to as God’s building (verse 9) and that “no one can lay a foundation other than which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (verse 11).

As you prepare for the coming election, pray for discernment in discovering which of the candidates who desire to represent you have a foundation that is solid, and not one that “will settle.” Seek wisdom and pray that those men and women will place their confidence on and faith in Jesus.

Pray With Us

Father and Creator of All, thank You for Jesus, the Solid Rock on which I stand. Thank You for the parable of the wise and the foolish persons who built homes upon different foundations only to find different results.  Give me understanding and discernment to know which of the candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives, and indeed for the President and Vice President also, have their feet solidly upon the knowledge and love of You.

Amen.
