Destiny

2 Peter 3:9 – The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you.

Today’s verse is often used in evangelism, for the rest of the verse says, “not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”  And, indeed, that is His wish for all of humanity, and you should be thankful that His patience reached even you.

Yet in these days of dealing with the coronavirus, dealing with the depressing economy, dealing with violence and anarchy in city streets, one wonders how long His patience will endure.

If you are like many believers, you are praying that Jesus would return, that the world would be turned upside down, that all things wrong would e made right. Basically, you are asking God to be true to His promise.  And one day He will. As today’s verse says, He really is not slow in keeping His promise…and but for His intense patience, He would have rendered judgment upon the Earth already.  Yet you can know that the time will come when the Father will tell Jesus it is time to call His children home. Are  you prepared if it were today? Are you telling others?

Pray With Us

Come quickly, Lord Jesus. You have heard me cry to You in recent days to make Your return, to deliver us from the evil that is around us. Help me to understand Your patience, and Your deep, deep  love for all of humanity, so much that You patiently wait for just one more soul to reach out to You for their salvation. Give me the courage to stand strong, an understanding of depths of Your grace I have not yet explored, and a sense of Your heart for others that impels me to share the Good News of Your Gospel of Peace. Thank You for Your abiding love.

Amen.
