What Could Happen If

 If God be for us, who can be against us? – Romans 8:31

“What could happen if we figure out how to reuse rockets like airplanes?” That might have been the question SpaceX CEO Elon Musk asked his engineers somewhere around 2012. They began with experimental vehicles, moved to sub-orbital rockets, engineered propulsive landing operations, and by December 2015, were able to launch and soft-land reusable orbital rockets. The Falcon 9 now routinely recovers and reuses their first stages, most recently on the U.S.-launched manned mission to the International Space Station. Where would today’s space program be had Elon Musk not asked the “if” question?

There is great power in “if.”  Steve Jobs knew it; Richard Branson likewise. Oprah Winfrey learned its power when she established her own television network. The unleashing of power often begins with the “if” question.

In his book, if, Mark Batterson asks, “What if you said ‘Yes’ to God’s infinite possibilities?” He answers, “That tiny two-letter word… is the hinge on the door of possibilities. Some of us are stuck on if only, living lives marked by regret. But God can turn our if only regrets into a what if attitude, a faith that looks forward to the future with holy confidence.” There are 1,784 ifs in the Bible. The most significant is today’s verse. “It’s a game changer,” Batterson exclaims. “God is always on our side—every day and in every way.”

If you are ready to believe it, there is no limit to the boldness you can have in Jesus Christ. Seek that “holy confidence” in faith through prayer today. Intercede for Christians in the House of Representatives and Senate to know that God is for them, and with them, every day and in every way, so that they might be bold in representing Him and the values of Scripture in their legislative efforts and debates.

Today’s Verse: Romans 8:31

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
    we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
