Rollback of Big Tech Protection Considered

Justice Department will propose legislation.

Big tech companies like Google and Facebook have for decades had certain legal protections from liability for content posted by their users. Recently, however, allegations of censorship of conservative voices on social media platforms have been made.

The Justice Department is considering proposing legislation to remove those protections, or scrap or weaken the laws that shield those internet companies.

Congress would have to pass any changes to the law.

On Wednesday, Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri joined with three other lawmakers to introduce a bill that would allow people to sue tech companies if they feel that their speech has been censored.

  • About the censorship of many voices that has become apparent in recent months.
