Between Fear and Faith

Look at the birds of the air… your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? – Matthew 6:26

Have you ever been stuck in that miserable no-man’s land between fear and faith?  You find yourself entertaining questions like “if God cares about us, why did my husband lose his job,” or “if God is good, how can my daughter have these health problems?” It is common to misunderstand God’s affection when life gets tough and you cannot see a path forward.

Stepping out of a spiritual mire starts with rediscovering what God’s love actually looks like. The world will tell you it means sufficient money in the bank or a clean bill of health, yet the Bible describes it differently. God’s care is evidenced by His presence and is demonstrated through the love of Jesus Christ bringing hope to your heart through the Holy Spirit.

Outside of knowing God, you will not likely make sense of the turmoil in the world or in your life. But like all of creation, when you place your trust first in the redeeming power of God’s great love, “He will cover you and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield” (Psalm 91:4).

Shift the gaze of your faith away from difficult circumstances and let it rest upon the face of the Faithful Father instead. You will see He not only cares for you; He is right beside you making a way where you do not see it. Pray for believers across America, especially those in challenging offices of public service, to join you in moving past their fear into a trusting faith.

Today’s Verse: Matthew 6:26

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Your faithfulness endures to all generations;
    you have established the earth, and it stands fast.
91 By your appointment they stand this day,
    for all things are your servants.
92 If your law had not been my delight,
    I would have perished in my affliction.
93 I will never forget your precepts,
    for by them you have given me life.
94 I am yours; save me,
    for I have sought your precepts.
