President Donald Trump is meeting with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for a working lunch this afternoon. The meeting is expected to focus on a few key issues, including China’s continued crack down on Hong Kong. Secretary Pompeo said that he and the president will be discussing how the U.S. will respond to China, adding that “the United States is going to impose a cost on the decision-makers who deny this freedom to the people of Hong Kong.”

The Department of State is evaluating the option of allowing Hong Kong residents to relocate to the U.S. While the United Kingdom recently expanded the eligibility options for Hong Kong citizens to apply for UK citizenship, Secretary Pompeo said that the U.S. approach would require more careful consideration. “The British have, as you know, a different relationship. A lot of these folks have British national passports. There’s a long history between Hong Kong and the United Kingdom; it’s very different. But we’re taking a look at it.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God to guide the discussions between the president and the secretary of state.
  • For wisdom for the president and secretary as they make decisions to protect democracy around the world.
  • For strength and encouragement for the president as he works to address the unrest around the nation and meet the needs of the American people.
