Nightlight

Esther 6:1 On that night the king could not sleep. And he gave orders to bring the book of memorable deeds, the chronicles, and they were read before the king.

You have made it through the day, keeping anxiety and fear at bay with your busy-ness. Darkness has fallen and everyone else in your household is asleep. Is that when worry takes over? You know you need sleep, but you spent untold time staring at the ceiling.  Anxiety over the lack of sleep leads to greater insomnia.  It is a vicious circle.

Without anything to capture your attention as the activities of the day can do, the hands on the clock or its bright red digital numbers become your focus.

Do as the king did in today’s verse. Ease yourself out of bed, find a comfortable place, and turn to the Word of God.  His Word can bring you comfort and peace. Reflect on Him. Your body will find its ease, and He will help you find the rest you need in His presence. Then you will say, as the psalmist did in Psalm 4:8, “In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”

Pray With Us

Lord God, thank You that you care about Your creation, wanting us to have times of rest and of secure sleep. I cast my cares on You, knowing You care for me. Thank You for the many reassurances in Your Holy Word.  Remove my anxieties from me tonight, restore me from my weariness, let me sleep like the innocent do, with such peacefulness. Then in the morning, I will be able to face the day with greater joy. I bless Your Name, Mighty God.

Amen.
