Trustworthy

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. – Psalm 20:7

What do you do when life gets difficult? How do you react to the stresses and difficulties that come at you “out of the blue?” Life is hard enough even when things seem to be going well. But when job losses come, incomes disappear, viruses hang over nations like a Biblical plague, and governments stumble, how do you respond deep within?

When Jesus walked the Earth, he spent many hours in prayer, being reliant on the Father. He couldn’t go it alone. Neither can you. He spoke often of the power of prayer. In Matthew 21:21-22 he said, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer you will receive, if you have faith.”

He is telling you where to place your trust.  “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations” (Deuteronomy 7:9).  He tells you that He is trustworthy; your job is to trust Him! Remember that it takes far more energy to worry than to pray!

Let your confidence in God be known to those around you. Pray for others, including those in the highest levels of government, who are looking to their own devices, their own wisdom, their own ideologies, rather than finding that it is God alone who is trustworthy.

Today’s Verse: Psalm 20:7

but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble!
May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!
May he send you help from the sanctuary
and give you support from Zion!
May he remember all your offerings
and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah

May he grant you your heart’s desire
    and fulfill all your plans!
May we shout for joy over your salvation,
and in the name of our God set up our banners!
May the Lord fulfill all your petitions!

Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed;
he will answer him from his holy heaven
with the saving might of his right hand.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
They collapse and fall,
but we rise and stand upright.

O Lord, save the king!
May he answer us when we call.
