No Need to Wipe Down Food Packaging, FDA Says

No evidence of virus transmission, they say.

There is no need to wipe down your grocery packages when you bring them home, according to a new directive issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

They said, “There is currently no evidence of human or animal food packaging being associated with the transmission of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.”

The FDA website posting said, “This particular coronavirus causes respiratory illness and is spread from person-to-person, unlike foodborne gastrointestinal or GI viruses, such as norovirus and hepatitis A, that often make people ill through contaminated food.”

But if people feel more comfortable, they can wipe down product packaging and let it air dry as an extra precaution, they said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That shoppers would continue social distancing and wearing face masks while marketing.
  • About good hygiene as it relates to food, food preparation and food handling to continue.
