Waging War

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 – For though we live in the world we are not carrying on a worldly war, for the weapons of our warfare are not worldly but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every proud obstacle to the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.

There is a battle going on. In fact, you might say there are two big battles going on. One is very physical and the other very spiritual. A mighty microscopic virus is running amok around the whole Earth, and entire nations have declared war against it. It is a war that can be won.

But the writer of a recently-published op-ed disclosed a greater war—a war against God!  Her piece, titled “The Road to Coronavirus Hell Was Paved by Evangelicals,” is filled with undue condescension and mockery of Christians that is becoming the norm for many journalists.  They mock the vice president for saying that prayer is essential in the fight against the virus. You hear them attack then try to trip up the president during task force briefings, and in recent vicious attacks against Mike Lindell after he told a television audience that Americans need to return to God.

The op-ed writer went further, exposing a deep disdain for those who have faith in Christ, challenging that there is “absolute evil and absolute good.” She has called God a liar. Stand strong! Contend for the faith as Jude 3 says. Remember God’s promise that “no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord (Isaiah 54:17).

Pray With Us

Heavenly Father, You are our Strong Tower and our Defender, and today I claim Your precious promises that assure me of Your strength and Your power. Remind me when I want to be angry at allegations against You and against Jesus that there have always been people who do this, it is not new to Your ears. But it must hurt Your heart, Lord. It hurts mine. At the conclusion of this war on the virus, it is my prayer that You, O Mighty God, would be glorified, because, despite evil words said against You, people are turning to You. Be with me and encourage me to be the salt and light You want in this world. Be victorious, Lord.

Amen.
