U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom
Robert Wood “Woody” Johnson IV was born in April 1947 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, a member of the Johnson & Johnson family. He graduated from the University of Arizona, working summer jobs at Johnson & Johnson with the expectation of ascending to the top of the family business.
He has had full-time involvement in charitable organizations, including those related to lupus and juvenile diabetes research. He became involved with professional sports, purchasing one team and being an equal partner with another in sports stadiums. He served on the NFL Commissioner research team. He established his own private investment firm.
He was nominated to be the ambassador to the United Kingdom by President Donald Trump. He was confirmed by the Senate, sworn in by Vice President Pence, and presented his credentials to Queen Elizabeth II in November 2017, formally becoming Ambassador.
Johnson has been twice married. First to Nancy Sale, with whom he had three children, and then to Suzanne Ircha with whom he has two children.

The U.S. ambassador to London said China had endangered the world by suppressing information about the coronavirus outbreak, thus allowing it to spread far beyond the Communist republic’s borders.
“First it tried to suppress the news,” Ambassador Woody Johnson wrote in an article for an England newspaper published last week, adding that Beijing had then selectively shared critical information while stonewalling international health authorities.
“Had China done the right things at the right time, more of its own population, and the rest of the world, might have been spared the most serious impact of this disease,” he wrote.
When everything is over, he said, a strong look needs to be taken at the breakdown in international collaboration.
