PRESIDENTIAL PRAYER REQUESTS FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 24-31, 2008

President Bush took a moment for a photo opportunity with entertainers Jorge Celedon, Jimmy Zambrano and their performance group during the celebration of Colombian Independence Day, July 22 in the East Room of the White House.  Pray for the President as he continues to work on a great variety of key issues through to the end of his administration.  Photo courtesy of the White House.

Pray for President Bush as he continues to work on key issues, particularly the possible timeline for the withdrawal of our troops from Iraq.  Pray for godly wisdom, for him and his team, as they continue to speak with Iraqi Prime Minister al-Maliki asking God to continue to strengthen this relationship to serve His purposes.

Pray for President Bush as he welcomes to the White House Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani of Pakistan on July 28 to discuss our mutual cooperation on key issues such as counterterrorism, economic development and regional cooperation.  Give thanks for our continued cooperation on the mutual goals of promoting democracy and combating extremism and pray for continued wisdom for both leaders.

Pray for President Bush and members of Congress as they consider passing the free trade agreement with Colombia, an initiative that has been under consideration for several months.  Pray for wisdom and guidance for all those involved in this decision.

Pray for those in the path of Hurricane Dolly, asking God to encourage and strengthen them as they clean up from this storm.  Pray for the needed help to get to those most in need.

Pray for members of the Senate as they continue to consider the issue of high gasoline and energy prices in our nation—for insight and creative solutions to this difficult concern that impacts families and businesses across America.  Pray particularly for guidance as they consider opening new areas to oil exploration balanced by concern for conservation of environmentally delicate areas as well as the question of supply and demand as it functions in our economy.

Giving thanks for the great resourcefulness of our nation, pray for continued efforts by many to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, asking God to raise up creative and dynamic researchers, inventors and entrepreneurs to develop new ways to power vehicles in our country. Pray also for all citizens to seek ways to safeguard existing resources by conserving fuel and cutting back where possible.

Pray for wisdom and continued success for General David Petraeus and all commanders on the ground in Iraq as they continue to work to help Iraqis govern and secure their own nation.  Give thanks for the success of the troop surge thus far, praying for further victories that will enable troops to withdraw.

Pray for the presumptive presidential candidates McCain and Obama as they continue to campaign, seeking to speak to the American people.  Pray particularly for Senator Obama as he wraps up his trip to Iraq and the Middle East, and pray for Senator McCain as he continues to speak to citizens about concerns great and small.  Pray also for both men and their teams as they consider vice-presidential candidates.

As fairness in the media has been in the news this week, pray for even and honest coverage of both candidates and their campaigns, that Americans may be able to make wise and informed decisions as they engage the election process.

Pray for the continued success and expansion of PPT’s Pray the Vote initiative, that many more will sign up for the 40 Days to Pray the Vote so that this election will be the most prayed-for election in our nation’s history.

As news has come about horrendous abuses and human slavery in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the early 90’s, pray against such abuse in every place where it may occur today.  Pray for justice for those who committed heinous crimes and for healing and comfort for those who were abused, tortured and enslaved.

Pray for the brave members of our military who faithfully do their duty in places of difficulty, danger and discomfort. Pray for their protection and care, and for each one to do his or her job with excellence and passion.  Pray for healing for those who are recovering from wounds, whether visible or not, that they will have their needs met and will be able to return to meaningful life with their loved ones.

PPT Honorary Co-Chair Joni Eareckson Tada urges us to “Spread the Word about Pray the Vote.”

Joni joins us in encouraging us all to tell others about Pray the Vote!

“Our nation is preparing for a change in Washington this fall. But one thing I’m confident won’t change is the faithful and steadfast prayers of so many through The Presidential Prayer Team and the Pray the Vote initiative! Though some feel concerned as they wonder about the outcome of this fall’s elections, Pray the Vote works to unite us as we seek God and His sovereign will for our next leader!”

Won’t you help get the word out to many more by telling your friends and family about
PPT and Pray the Vote? It’s a wonderful way to strengthen our country and unite our hearts as ‘one nation, under God!’”

We agree with Joni!  Our Pray the Vote initiative has instilled many citizens with fresh hope as they consider the outcome of the November election. Yet there are millions of Americans who still do not know about the power of prayer to impact and unite our nation.

That’s why we’re asking you to check out the excellent Public Service Announcements available at www.praythevorte.org.

We encourage you to send these to a friend or to many friends! You can also dispatch them to your favorite radio station or media outlet or place them on your own website. Even better, ask your church to place the PSAs on their website for the whole congregation to be encouraged and inspired to participate in Pray the Vote 2008 and our unique 40 Days to Pray the Vote daily e-mail prayer initiative.

Promote Pray the Vote 2008!
You can promote Pray the Vote 2008 to others by sending them a “Tell a Friend” e-mail, or our Pray the Vote video. Tell others about this dynamic prayer movement for the candidates and the election today!

PRESIDENTIAL QUOTE
FOR THE WEEK

Portrait courtesy of the National Gallery

I trust that the God of Isaac and of Jacob will protect you, and give you health in my absence, in Him alone we ought to trust.  He alone can preserve and guide us through this troublesome world, and I am sure He will hear your prayers.  We are told that the prayers of the righteous prevaileth much, and I add mine for your health and preservation until we meet again.
Andrew Jackson, in a letter to his wife, Rachel, December 21, 1823

WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT ON PRAYER

Pray for President and Mrs. Bush as they continue to serve their country for the remaining months of his administration.  Photo courtesy of the White House.

I'll tell you, the most sustaining aspect of the presidency, one of the most interesting parts of the presidency, one of the most touching parts of the presidency is that people whom I have never known in my life take time to pray for me and Laura and our family.  And what that means--it sustains us. It strengthens us. The prayers comfort us, and so do my own prayers. And so that's what religion means to me as the President.
—George W. Bush

PRAYER QUOTE FOR THE WEEK

Spiritual growth is impossible apart from the practice of prayer. Just as the key to enhanced relationships with other people is time spent in communication, so the key to a growing relationship with the personal God of heaven and earth is time invested in speaking to Him in prayer and listening to His voice in Scripture.
Kenneth Boa, author and President of Reflections Ministries

William Penn's Passion to See His Children Pursue Good Citizenship
When William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania, neared the end of his life, he felt the need to leave his children with instructions for living in his absence. What marks Penn's advice is his passion to see them pursue both godly faith and responsible citizenship. He leaves very specific instructions for his children regarding their daily spiritual practices and their understanding of theology. His words are richly interwoven with Scripture.

IN THE NEWS

Recent research reveals that Believers seek out Christian radio for the sermons, Bible teaching and personal help they can find.  Pray for all those in the important ministry of Christian broadcasting, that they will be used by God to strengthen and advance His Kingdom.

More believers are tuning in to Christian radio for reasons other than music than some might think, according to a new survey.

While the most popular reason for tuning in to Christian radio was to listen to Christian music (56 percent), 40 percent of Christians say they tune in to listen to sermons and teaching, the Wilson Research Strategies survey found.

The greatest battles they are facing currently are from spirits of suicide/homicide, rage, anger, depression, TBI, PTSD from combat trauma, divorce, marital discord.

Robert remains in a combat area.  Please continue to pray for him as well as his family—a wife and two children.  He reports all is well.  Thank you.

Please pray for Eric .We have not heard from him since he was deployed over one month ago in the Middle East.  Pray that he will e-mail or call his parents.

Dan is scheduled to come home on leave next month. He is doing well and looking forward to being home. He and his wife celebrated their first anniversary in July, and I am sure that they will celebrate together when he gets home! This has been a difficult time for them, but they are making it through, one day at a time with the help of the Lord! Please continue to pray for Dan and Laura as they are going through this together.

Dale is back in Kuwait now, waiting for his flight home. He has been able to call home and I can hear the excitement in his voice. He has many choices to make when he gets here. Pray that God will guide him to make the right ones. He will turn 23 soon after he gets home. I can't wait to give him a big hug. Thanks, from Dale's mama.
