North Carolina lawmaker called “beloved colleague”
Representative Walter Jones, Jr., a 13-term lawmaker from eastern North Carolina, died Sunday on his 76th birthday. The cause of death was not announced, but his health had been in sharp decline after complications from a broken hip sustained in a fall.
Representative Mark Meadows, also of North Carolina, said, “Deeply saddened by passing of Walter Jones—a beloved colleague and friend who had a profound impact on all through his graciousness, character, and committed Christian faith. God be with and keep his family. We will miss him.”
His office said, “Congressman Jones was a man of the people. With a kind heart and the courage of his convictions, he dedicated his life to serving his Savior and to standing up for Americans who needed a voice. He was a champion for our men and women in uniform and their families, always mindful of their service and sacrifice.”
- For God’s mercies upon the family and colleagues of Representative Walter Jones.
For the government of North Carolina as they must deal with a replacement for this long-serving Congressman.
