PRAYER ALERT - Shutdown Enters Fourth Week

9 departments and 800,000 federal workers affected

The U.S. federal government has been under a partial shutdown since December 22nd and is entering its fourth week. President Donald Trump, the Senate, and the House of Representatives need to reach an agreement to fund border security. Currently, nine federal departments consisting of approximately 800,000 employees are either on furlough or are required to work without pay.

The impacted departments include Agriculture, Commerce, Justice, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, State, Transportation, and the Treasury.

In order to focus on reaching a solution, President Trump canceled his planned weekend trip to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Much of the stalemate revolves around funding for the border wall, which the president deems as necessary to address the national security concerns at the U.S.-Mexico border. Following his trip on Thursday, he said that there is a “humanitarian crisis at our southern border. I just got back and it is a far worse situation than almost anyone would understand.” He added that “without [the wall], our country cannot be safe.”

As the Lord Leads, pray with us:
  • For wisdom for President Trump and members of Congress as they work together to end the government shutdown.
  • For guidance for the president and Congress as they address border and national security concerns.
  • For grace for the hundreds of thousands of federal employees and their families who are financially impacted during this time.
  • For safety for border security personnel as they work to protect the nation.
