New Discovery of Oil and Natural Gas Announced
One of the largest, under Texas and New Mexico
The discovery of one of the largest sources of oil and natural gas under Texas and New Mexico was announced Thursday by the U.S. Geological Survey.
“Christmas came a few weeks early this year,” Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said, as he unveiled the new find. “American strength flows from American energy, and as it turns out, we have a lot of American energy.’
The new shale oil and gas formation is known as Wolfcamp, and contains hundreds of billions of barrels of oil, trillions of cubic feet of natural gas, and billions of barrels of natural gas liquids, all of which will be extracted by hydraulic fracturing.
Secretary Zinke said he is even more “bullish” that “American energy dominance is within our grasp as a nation.’
- That America’s oil and natural gas fields and reserves will carry the nation’s energy demands into the future.
For the work of the men and women of the U.S. Geological Survey, and oil and gas explorers.
