Pentagon Weapons Vulnerable to Cyber Attack

Government Accountability Office reveals weaknesses

On Wednesday, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report detailing some of the weaknesses of Pentagon weapons systems. The report explained that the Department of Defense’s systems were becoming more and more reliant on software, and therefore more vulnerable to cyber attacks. Unfortunately, the report from the GAO said, the "DOD does not know the full scale of its weapon system vulnerabilities."

Some of the vulnerabilities are as simple as passwords that were able to be guessed in seconds, and even some passwords that were never changed from their factory default. Additionally, test teams “reported using free, publicly available information or software downloaded from the Internet to avoid or defeat weapon system security controls.” The DoD has been given the report and will begin working to shore up security.

As the Lord Leads, pray with us:
  • For the GAO to be able to work effectively to show different government agencies areas for improvement.
  • For Secretary of Defense Mattis to lead the DoD towards better cyber security
  • That any cyber vulnerabilities would be fixes.
