Vice President Pence Annonced Aid

Vice President Mike Pence announced in Peru that Washington was giving $16 million to help Venezuelans who have fled the country's economic crisis, some of which would go to host communities in Colombia and Brazil.

Vice President Pence said the United States stands with Venezuelans fleeing the rule of President Nicolas Maduro. He told a meeting of Venezuelan opposition leaders in Lima that "we are with you to see freedom once again," and said Madura has turned Venezuela into a dictatorship and has brought about "abject misery." He also said he will be calling on U.S. allies to provide additional humanitarian aid.

The vice president was in Lima to attend the Summit of the Americas that gathered regional heads of state on Friday and Saturday. President Trump canceled his scheduled visit to the summit to focus on the crisis in Syria.
