Steven Turner “Steve” Mnuchin was born in December 1962 in New York City. He attended Riverdale Country School in New York City, and graduated from Yale University with a bachelor’s degree.
His first job was a trainee at investment bank Salomon Brothers, while he was still studying at Yale. After graduating from Yale, he worked for Goldman Sachs, where he remained until 2002. He then worked for a hedge fund company, later establishing SEM Capital Management together with financier George Soros. He went on to found a business that financed a number of motion pictures.
In November 2016, President-elect Trump announced his intention to nominate Mnuchin as U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. He was confirmed by the Senate by a 53-47 vote in February 2017.
He is married to Louise Linton. He has three children with his former wife, Heather deforest Crosby. Mnuchin is Jewish.

China has made more than $1.2 trillion in additional trade commitments as part of a deal reached by U.S. President Donald Trump and China’s Xi Jinping and Beijing has vowed to take immediate steps on those promises.
President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to hold off on new tariffs during talks in Argentina on Saturday, declaring a truce following months of escalating tensions on trade and other issues.
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said, “They put on the table an offer of over $1.2 trillion in additional commitments. But the details still need to be negotiated. This is the first time that we have a commitment from them that this will be a real agreement.”
