On Tuesday President Trump offered remarks on the 236th anniversary of the creation of the Purple Heart decoration. The decoration was originally created by General George Washington to recognize those who went above and beyond the call of duty in early America. This distinction is now given to U.S. service members to recognize their courage, either for receiving injuries or losing their lives.
The President reaffirmed his support for the U.S. military stating that as Americans, “we honor the members of our Armed Forces for serving as the vanguard of American democracy and freedom around the world. Their devotion to duty and love for this country ensure each new generation may enjoy the blessings of liberty, peace, and prosperity.”
