Vice President Mike Pence spent a good deal of Tuesday with lawmakers who sought to understand what President Trump had promised Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un when he said he would call a stop to American troop “war games” with South Korea.
The vice president said the U.S. military would continue to train its South Korean counterparts and conduct military drills, but not large-scale joint exercises.
An aide to Vice President Pence said, “The VP didn’t say exercises will continue. He was asked about force readiness and said that while the semiannual war games would cease (assuming parameters of the deal are met), regular readiness training would continue. It may seem like a small distinction but it is fairly significant.”
