On Inauguration Day, Second Lady Karen Pence announced her desire to bring the profession of art therapy to more national awareness. Art therapy is a technique used by mental health professionals that encourages patients to express and explore their feelings through the use of art materials, particularly when they may not be able to express their feelings using words.
An artist herself, Mrs. Pence has a special kind of passion for this initiative. “I want to get more people aware of art therapy, not only for children who are going through illness, but adults as well who have gone through trauma.” This has been a long-time interest for Mrs. Pence, as she also serves as a board member for Tracy’s Kids, a local art therapy program, and previously helped raise funds to hire full-time art therapists at Riley Hospital for Children in her home state of Indiana.
Mrs. Pence will need prayer as she makes an effort to shine a light on this previously little-known-about profession.
Pray for Mrs. Pence to have wisdom as she seeks to champion for artists and art therapists in their profession.
Pray that Mrs. Pence’s initiative will help make a positive difference in the lives of those who are struggling with illness or trauma.
Pray that God will bring others around Mrs. Pence to support her and those who benefit from art therapy programs around the country.
