Turkey is on the list of nations to visit, and he expects to urge leaders to rein in an offensive in northerner Syria.
The trip, from February 11 to 16, will include Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt and Kuwait, and difficult conversations are anticipated at each stop.
In addition to dealing with the ongoing conflict in Syria, Tillerson will be discussing Israeli-Palestinian peace potential, the upcoming U.S. embassy in Jerusalem, disputes Kuwait is having with its neighbors, and the March election in Egypt.
