Just before sunrise, Congress approved a bipartisan budget agreement ending the brief shutdown. The bill was then sent to the president to sign. Government agencies were able to continue mostly unaffected as the passage came before normal opening business hours.
Fiscal conservatives were weary of the new federal spending increases that they fought against for so many years. Democrats were also unhappy as the bill didn’t tackle immigration like they had hoped. In the end, both sides agreed to allow the passage of the bill as a compromise in order to keep the government open and running.
