The president is slated to lead a discussion on criminal justice and prison reform on Thursday, January 11th. The meeting is timely and will address the efficacy and standards of the criminal justice system. A focal point of the meeting will be on reentry, or the process by which inmates reintegrate into their communities once released from detention facilities. One idea that will be explored is how to make it easier for those reentering to get jobs to help reduce recidivism.
Three Republican governors are expected to attend--Governor Nathan Deal (GA), Gov. Matt Bevin (KY), and Gov. Sam Brownback (KS)--as well as Derek Cohen, Director of Right on Crime at Texas Public Policy Foundation, televangelist, Paula White, and several other public figures.
