As we look back over the past few months, our nation has endured devastating storms and wildfires. This past weekend, we experienced a domestic tragedy with the loss of life in Las Vegas. Whether we endured any of these events firsthand or whether we were far across the country, we all lived them together, and we all saw the courage of America joining together to help one another.
While many people's roles in responding and helping are never highlighted, all eyes are on the president in times of crisis. It is how a leader responds to tragedy that can make or break the citizens' belief in him or her. And it matters in not only the words that are spoken, but in the actions that are taken. The first thing that a leader does is show up.
Today, President Trump is in Puerto Rico to meet with FEMA and military officials, first responders, and the people of Puerto Rico. He has also seen firsthand the devastation from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, and is now walking with those who have felt the effects of Hurricane Maria.
On Wednesday, President Trump plans to visit Las Vegas. He plans to meet with first responders, local officials, and law enforcement as they continue to help the injured and put together the pieces of the story in the aftermath of the shooting.
The president does not always know what the next day will hold and what new challenges must be faced. But pray that as they come, President Trump remains resolute and ready.
